I’m excited to announce that I will be joining the cast of Le Reve- The Dream at the Wynn Las Vegas in less than a month! My contract will be for about a year and a half starting Monday, April 30th. Thank you so much to everyone who contributed to this moment; thank you all for your support and encouragement. Special thanks to my mom, my gymnastics coach, my beautiful balletic sister, and especially to my swim coaches for teaching me (the least likely swimmer ever!) how to swim and pass the swim test. Thanks everyone! Come see me in Vegas!
Le Reve – The Dream
A Sustainable Movement
Thursday, March 15, 2012 - 8 to 8:30pm
The intention of my art is to express a story that generates thought, discussion and action in our community- a story that can catalyze the change that we so desperately hunger for.
I like to think about renaissance art. Art that was respected. Art that was so forward looking that it truly gave a voice to progress. In the past art has led us into a new era of human development, thought, science and democracy. We are now at that point again, at a point where the arts have the potential to lead us into new ways of thinking about and caring for our world.
Our world is unsustainable, from our work lives, to our education systems, to how we treat the environment and how we treat one another. In expressing sustainability in our world today I would like to take a moment to think about how art can be a movement and how a movement can create a sustainable future.
In closing I would like to leave you with two quotes.
Art is always and everywhere the secret confession, and at the same time the immortal movement of its time. – Karl Marx
The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance. -Aristotle

South Sudan – 1 day to go
I leave for South Sudan tomorrow! Bags are packed and for the first time ever I didn’t have to sit on my luggage to close it, nor does it weight exactly 50 lbs!
I will mostly be in Eastern Equatoria, South Sudan near the Ilemi Triangle, the disputed border between South Sudan, Kenya and Ethiopia. Some of my interests include: the role of women in the development of this nation and the role of women in this particular region of the country, sustainable peace, cultural understanding of ethnic groups and art, and the enormous potential for sustainable development and empowerment in this newly independent post conflict zone.
I will have zero access to internet while in the region but I do plan to post once I get back. Stay tuned for photos and updates when I return!

The New Sudan- 18 days to go
I just watched The New Sudan a couple of weeks ago. The New Sudan is a great documentary by Nadus Films on the development South Sudan. The film educates viewers on the history, struggles and hopes of the Southern Sudanese people. The film is captivating and I would definitely recommend it.

South Sudan (24 days to go)
I will be leaving for South Sudan, the newest country in the world, in less than a month. South Sudan gained its independence from Sudan on July 9, 2011 after two of the longest and most brutal wars in Africa, the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, signed in 2005, and a referendum held in January 2011. Although independent, over 20 years of ruthless, inhumane warfare has left the country turbulent and fragile. The area is plagued by famine and drought. The country has some of the lowest health indicators in the world. Just this month cattle raids led to ethnic conflicts, thousands of deaths and displaced people and numerous missing humanitarian workers. As little attention is paid to Africa, and much less South Sudan, my next few posts will be about the newly independent country that I will soon be visiting.
